1. Private Liberal Art Schools are More Expensive then a Public State School
If you look at the sticker price, yes a liberal arts school is more expensive than a state school, but no one pays the sticker price. The thing about liberal arts schools is they actually have more money available to offer students in the forms of scholarships and grants because they are a privately funded school. Private schools do not have caps on how much they can recieve in scholarship money. They can also give you grants which public schools cannot. Do your research and talk with the finiancial aid couselor at the college. At lot of times a liberal arts schools will end up being the same as a state school or even cheaper.
2. Liberal Art Schools Don't Have as Much to do as a Public State School
They do. Many liberal art schools have a variety of sports teams and different ways to get involved from events to clubs and organizations. You just have to look and find them. It is often easier to find ways to get involved because the school is smaller and everyone is involved in something, often times more than one thing.
3. Liberal Art School's aren't worth your money
They are. I like to say you get what you pay for. Liberal art schools offer an individualized education with small classes that are well worth your money.
4. Liberal Art Schools don't have as many internship and career opportunities.
This is false. They do. And a lot of liberal art schools have close ties with the community providing more internship opportunities. And in a lot of cases companies like to work cloesly with small schools because they get people from the big universities all the time.
5. A liberal art school automatically gives you a leg up on your resume or in an interview
This is not true either. It is about your major, minor, grades and your involvement outside of classes that really counts. Employers are looking to see that you have the knowledge and skill set required for the job. Though it is often easier to find ways to get involved at a liberal art school because it is smaller.
6. Liberal art Art Schools are hard to get into. They are only looking for really smart people
False. Many liberal art schools are looking for well rounded students that have participated in community service, have been leaders in their school and community and show an interested in furthering their education. Grades are not always the biggest factor they are looking at.
Hoepfully now you understand a little bit more about private liberal art schools and will re-think the way you look at them.
