Geography: Stack the States Lite
Now there is a regular stack the states that you can purchase for $0.99, but the lite one, is free, and great if just want the basics. This app is a great geography game that students can play. It asks you a geography question regarding a state (Madison is the capital of which state?) and then gives you for states as choices. If you pick the right one, it will put a green circle around it to let you know it is correct, and then will let you move it around before dropping it. The idea of the game is you want to stack as many states high as you can to get to the black line. Now the trick is, it will only stack if it falls on the brown bottom. So you have to line up the state so it will fall there. The more questions you get the correct, the more states you get to stack. And once you stack enough to reach the black line, you win, and you unlock other states. If you answer the question incorrectly it will put a red circle around the state you choice, and give you the correct answer. You will not be able to drop that state. This is a great app for older students (2nd-6th grade) for students learning their U.S. geography. There is also a stack the continents that could be used with older kids (4th-7th grade) and then a stack the countries that could be used with 5th through 10th grade.
Money: My Piggy Bank
This app is great for younger kids (kindergarten through 3rd grade) because it helps with money recognition. This app has different games you can play. First one is a piggy bank where it asks you put all of a certain coin into the bank. (Put all the nickles into the piggy bank) As you put them in, it says "nickel, 5 cents). The next one has you match up the coins with their picture. They start with them in order on the right side (penny, nickle, dime, quarter) and then mix them up. This is great for helping kids recognize coins and their different representations.
Weather: Marco Polo Weather
This app is a great weather app. It gives you a weather scene. There are three different characters to choose from, and then different weather options. You can can change the temperature, whether it is cloudy, sunny, rainy or snowy, the amount of wind, and then day or night. It gives you different clothes options so you can change based on the weather you choose, When you choose a certain type of weather it tells you information about it. Now I do wish it didn't cost $0.99 to purchase things like lightning and tornadoes, but it is still pretty good for being free. This is great for young kids (Kindergarten-2nd grade) to teach them about the fundamentals of weather.
