SPOILER ALERT! IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE FINAL EPISODE DO NOT READ THIS POST!
I loved how the episode started out. Amber, Sara and Camille were all sitting in her apartment talking about the future, which was so appropriate because it was the finale. I loved that Amber still didn't really know how she was going to raise the baby, but seemed to have faith that it was going to all work out.
Then Max was given the job to be photographer at Hank and Sara's wedding, and I feel that that was all the closer we needed for him. We saw Max as a little boy in the first season, who was just diagnosed with Aspergers, and everything was so uncertain with him and his future. But him getting this job as photographer was really everything you could wish and ask for for Max and his future. By seeing him receive this news you some how know that everything is going to be alright. And that statistic about people with autism that he mentioned in the previous episode has no relevance. Max can do anything he puts his mind to.
I loved that Hank asked Zeke for his permission in marriage and that he disclosed to him about Aspergers. We haven't got to see Zeke and Hank have many conversations together, and this allowed us to really understand how much Hank likes Zeke, and how much Zeke likes Hank.
Moving onto the wedding. I loved that the wedding was a part of the finale, but that it wasn't at the forefront. Everybody had their own little struggles and things they were dealing with, and the wedding became the place where they were all figured out. I loved the photography shoot. I thought it was so perfect, and encapsulated everything that this show is about. Family. Although they didn't show a lot of the ceremony, it just enough. Getting to see Zeke walk down the aisle was so amazing, and to see how happy Sara was with Hank. And perhaps my favorite thing about the ceremony was when Amber started crying. I immediately started crying too. One of my favorite relationships portrayed on this show was Amber and Sara and how they seemed to always fight, but in the end, they just loved each other, and always would, and this showed how much Amber loves her mother.
The reception was this wonderful time where everyone got to figure out their life and where they are going next. Sara was starting a new life with Hank, Crosby decided to keep the Lunchonette and run it on his own, Amber was asked to move in with Zeke and Camille, Joel and Julia decided to adopt Victor's half sister, Adam tried to decide what his future looked like. It was so beautiful to see them all in one place, celebrating such a happy thing, and looking into the future. I thought Drew's best man speech was so perfect in every way. He touched on everything about the family that is so important. Amber's new baby, Zeke being there for the wedding, and Sara finally putting herself first and following her heart.
And then the big event that happened, that we all saw coming. Zeke's death. For a while I thought that maybe they were just trying to throw us off with all of Zeke's medical problems, and they were going to have someone else die, but by the third to last episode it became clear that he was going to die, we just didn't know how. And I thought how they did it was perfect. I thought it was so appropriate that they spread his ashes on the baseball diamond and then proceeded to play a game. That is absolutely what Zeke would have wanted.
I loved the foreshadowing they did so we could get a little glimpse as to what all of their futures looks like. I love that Camille got to live out her dream of going to France (at least I think it was France) so she could paint and that Crobsy prospered with the studio, and Joel and Julia were happy as a family of 5. I loved that Amber had found a loving partner and had another child and that Zeke grew up to know his father.
We got closure on every character and everything and it was perfect in absolutely every way!
Thanks for a great 6 seasons parenthood!
