You're really moving to Salt Lake?
Are you going to convert to Mormonism?
How many Mormons go to your school?
Is there anything to do there?
I was perplexed by these questions. Did they think that I didn't know I was moving to a city heavily populated by Mormons. And did they think I had never met any Mormons or I didn't know anything about the religion. Although I was raised Catholic I had many friends in middle and high school who were Mormon. I learned more about the religion through them and my eyes were opened. They were some of my best friends in high school and depsite not agreeing with their beleifs, I still respected them. And of course I knew when I decdied to move to Salt Lake that there would be a lot of Mormon people here, but I didn't care. I am respectful of other people and there beliefs and I have no problem living in the same place as them and sharing the same space. And yes, I do have Mormons that go to my school but it is a small percentage of the student body. And the ones who are, you likely would not even know because it isn't the first thing they talk about. And lastly, Salt Lake has a wonderful culture. Yes there are a lot of temples and churches, but they are also many other things here. You can go hiking, see a variety of concerts in really cool places, do some shopping, see art. I love all there is to do here.
Now that I have been here for three years when I go home I am now bombarded with these different questions:
Has anyone tried to convert you to Momonsim?
And is it hard to live there?
No. Since living here for three years I have not had one person try to convert me. And as I mentioned above, it is not hard to live here because there is so much to do!
